The City of Racine joins other communities in Wisconsin and the nation as it begins to use recycling carts in place of the current Blue Bag program. The cart program is designed to make recycling easier and save money for both residents of Racine and the City. Use the cart. It’s easy and the benefits are many:
- All recyclables are placed in the cart. No sorting. No bagging.
- Recyclables kept out of the landfill extend landfill life and save money.
- Reprocessed recyclables create revenue for the City.
- Recycling makes a cleaner, greener Earth.
Here is important information for you to know:
- A 65-gallon cart will be delivered to your address between Monday, April 26 and Friday, May 14.
- You may exchange the 65-gallon cart for either a smaller (35-gallon)
or larger
(95-gallon) cart after a 60-day trial period, beginning
Monday, July 19.
- Your recycling collection using the new 65-gallon cart will begin either the week of Monday, May 17 or Monday, May 24, depending on which collection route you live on. The letter you received in mid-April listed your specific start-date. Recyclables will be collected every other week. A calendar of collection, as well as a collection zone map, will be mailed to you in early May.
You can download pdf versions of the calendar and route map from the Media page.
- Please note that your solid waste collection schedule will not be changed.
Non-residential properties that meet certain criteria will instead receive a 95-gallon cart that is not exchangeable.
If you feel you require special collection services, please contact the Department of Public Works to place your request.
You are important to the recycling program’s success. So “Pitch in, Racine.” Do your part to make Racine a better place for all to live.
